BPI HEP Crew Leader / Retrofit Installer:
Course Description:
This course prepares students for advanced BPI HEP Crew Leader / Retrofit Installer Technician exams. Course curriculum is a blend of classroom and field training. Students receive thorough instruction in:
•Building Science principles
•Diagnostic equipment usage and results interpretation
•Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) safety diagnostics and Worst-Case Depressurization (WCD) testing procedures, results interpretation, and action levels
•BPI Standards
•NREL Standard Work Specifications (SWS)
•Industry best practices and techniques
During the field portion of the course, each attendee specifically demonstrates their ability to:
•Air seal electrical and plumbing penetrations using appropriate materials and techniques
•Air seal around recessed lighting boxes using appropriate materials and techniques
•Air seal around exhaust fans using appropriate materials and techniques
•Air seal thermal bypasses (chases) using appropriate materials and techniques
•Air seal and install dams around combustion vent piping using appropriate materials and techniques
•Probe wall cavities to identify areas where blocking is installed, locate damage, etc.
•Dense pack closed cavities

Schedule:
8:30 am – 5:00 pm daily (30-minute lunch each day)
Monday / Tuesday – Classroom Instruction
Wednesday / Thursday – Field training using props
Friday – Field training using props cont’d, Review and written evaluation
Attending this course qualifies BPI Certified Professionals to receive 10 BPI CEUs.
